NASA Proves Global Warming is Human Caused

A topic that gets too little coverage nowadays, Climate Change, is back in the spotlight this week as a new NASA report highlights what has been obvious for years: Global warming is real and humans are mostly the cause. That’s mostly, with an M.
Not only is Climate Change real, but the science behind it has been telling us this for some time. Ever since the conversation first started, there have been those that deny it out of fear that the status quo of drilling for oil and massive amounts of pollution caused by their “free market” efforts will be hampered by anyone trying to stop global warming from happening.
Let’s go over a brief history of denier logic, shall we?
First, deny that it even exists. Attack the messenger. Attack the message. Find other explanations that seem plausible and make entire documentaries full of misinformation. The idea that it is not happening at all has been thoroughly debunked for years now.
Once deniers spend enough time denying and talking to people who actually know what they are talking about, they eventually come to the conclusion of “well, ok, maybe the earth is warming, but humans have nothing to do with it. It’s all natural. Or something.” This has also been debunked. So we move on to the next phase.
Eventually, when a denier is forced to admit humans have something to do with it, their next response is “Humans aren’t a MAJOR cause, they are only contributing a small small teeny tiny insignificant amount.” This is where the NASA report comes in (emphasis mine):
A new NASA study tries to lay to rest the skepticism about climate change, especially vocal this year on the GOP presidential campaign trail. It finds, like other major scientific research, that greenhouse gases generated by human activities — not changes in solar activity — are the primary cause of global warming.
It gets better when the USA Today article starts talking about opinion pages:
On the Wall Street Journal’s opinion page, 16 scientists recently said there’s no need for drastic action to “decarbonize” the world’s economy. “Perhaps the most inconvenient fact is the lack of global warming for well over 10 years now,” they wrote without providing data.
Not so, according to U.S. government records.
Michael Mann of IPCC fame brought up the lack of news coverage and how Climate Change is still a real issue a few weeks ago on Up With Chris Hayes. He also pointed out why this is still a real issue and why something needs to be done about it. But the biggest battle for Climate Science hasn’t been implementation of methods to halt warming, it has been fighting misinformation and trying to just get people to admit there is a problem. When we can’t even agree there IS a problem, then we can’t solve it.
Scientists have been publishing study after study for years that show basically the same data, that the earth is warming and that humans are causing it. Even the hockey stick data, initially denied by a prominent scientist, published a Koch Brothers funded study that proved the data related to the hockey stick was real, and the scientific conclusions of human caused global warming was also real.
Fox News and Rush Limbaugh have constantly perpetuated the myth that Climate Change isn’t real, calling anyone who disagrees with them liberal or other names they think of as slurs. One comes away thinking scientists are evil people out to take something from you, perhaps your guns, but we will never really know for sure.
Still, we need to finally admit that Climate Change IS real, that humans ARE causing it, and that we need to do something to help stop our planet from warming to the point where we can no longer safely live on it. This needs to be addressed even if some people will continue to deny the truth.
